SharePoint Community Nederland

Jasper Oosterveld, 14 november 2011

In the first part of this series I talked about a knowledge centre created for one of our customers. In this article I will show you how easy it is to create a knowledge centre with out-of-the-box SharePoint functionalities.

Step 1 – Create the site

The first step is to create a new site based on the Enterprise Wiki template:

I really like the Wiki. It is easy for the users to create new pages, by using the Site Actions menu, or by adding [[ ]] to a word or sentence. Let’s say you created a new page about hiring new employees. This page needs to connect to another page about the bonus system for recruiting new employees. Only you are not the author for this page and want another user create the page. Just perform the following action:

[[Recruitment bonus system]]

The text will get marked:

Another user can click on this link and a new page, called Recruitment bonus system, can be created. The Wiki also comes with the rating feature and a standard metadata field called Categories.

Step 2 – Set up the taxonomy Lees meer (1 reacties)

A couple of weeks ago I saw a tweet from Jennifer Mason (@jennifermason). She asked if someone is using metadata navigation in lists and libraries. This was a coincidence because during one of my recent projects a client asked us if we could implement an internal knowledge centre. This centre had to be used for storing internal procedures. This varied from internal trainings to what to do in a case of an emergency. The customer wanted to create the procedures, in SharePoint 2010, through using text, documents and pictures. The procedures had to be categorized per department. This immediately brought my attention to the enterprise wiki site template and managed metadata navigation.

I would like to show you the final result in this article, and in the follow up articles I will explain how I configured the knowledge centre by just using out-of-the-box SharePoint! The last article dedicated to this subject is going to be about making cool adjustments with a custom page lay-out by using SharePoint Designer 2010. Lees meer (0 reacties)

SharePoint Meeting Workspaces – Part 2

Jasper Oosterveld, 10 augustus 2011

My article about the SharePoint Meeting Worspaces got published at NothingbutSharePoint:

https://www.nothingbutsharepoint.com/sites/eusp/Pages/SharePoint-Meeting-Workspaces.aspx

I stated the following:

“The owner has to check which users accepted the invitation to the meeting, which was probably sent with Outlook. There is, unfortunately, no integration with Microsoft Outlook and this list (and the whole workspace).”

One of the visitors (Josh F) corrected me and said there was integration possible! He was right J I quickly found the following blog post:

Never too late to learn ;-)

In my previous article I talked about the compatibility between out-of-the-box iPad (without a SharePoint / Office application) and SharePoint. To be honest, that was not a big success. The compatibility is really poor. I am only not giving up! Today I want to test the following functionalities:

  • Browsing through sites
  • Using the Social features
  • Creating items
  • Searching for content or people

After this test I will give a final decision about using the iPad and SharePoint.
